Paying It Forward: Action your Dreams by Serving Others

As a technology sales guy, January’s meant the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. I’ve learned CES is now a family tradition; my son will attend next week. His goal, face to face networking with colleagues, partners, and prospects. In the process he also gets an update of AI (Artificial Intelligence), EVs (Electric Vehicles) and Robotics capabilities and trends. His actions are foundational for 2024 sales.
Of CES’s 140,000 attendees, ½ are key decision makers. Four thousand exhibits fill more than two million square feet at dozens of venues. 60% of the Fortune companies attend and/or exhibit; as such, so do their customers and suppliers. 150 countries are represented, with 1/3 of the attendees from outside the US. Attendees set up an average of 30 meetings during CES, Tuesday January 9th to Friday January 12th.
Here at home, 200+ nonprofits finished their first week of 2024; 51 weeks left. Will they make progress towards their 2024 mission? Understanding the mission and setting the right aggressive goals are key.
I learned to stretch and set the goals that get you “half way to the wall.” Leaders who develop high impact goals backed up with details can energize their people’s attention and maximize engagement. It's especially important to energize volunteers; it keeps them coming back! Frequent updates with interim results renew and attract the volunteers to stay on track for big projects.
Making sure you expand your network is key to staying relevant and connected to the community. If volunteers don’t see you, how can they think of serving your nonprofit? Two great community engagement opportunities happen in January. Join several hundred Wichitans at the 35th annual Wichita Falls Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast, Saturday, January 20, 2024. Another opportunity, dozens of organizations will have booths as the University Kiwanis will hold their 68th annual Pancake Festival Jan. 27 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thousands will eat pancakes!!
Take care of yourself, and those you care about. Mental Health becomes more challenging with shorter winter days; and with credit card bills of past holidays bright spirits fade to winter blues. The photo is a Drastically Different to do list by Bryter Work. Plan your To Do’s holistically.
Volunteer for yourself, it makes you feel good when you help another.
