Paying It Forward: Go Beyond, Dream and Do!
By teenage years, most lose the limitless imagination and optimistic hope enjoyed in childhood. Dreams enrich our lives, inspiring us in realizing a world better for all.
By teenage years, most lose the limitless imagination and optimistic hope enjoyed in childhood. I remember dreaming in my sleep. Peter Pan can fly. I can swim. I can swim through the air. I can go to Mars. I ended up selling technology that makes things smarter and connected. My experience taught how to make others’ dreams reality. Along the way I learned the power of dreams. Dreams enrich our lives, inspiring us in realizing a world better for all.
I’m a dreamcatcher, a force multiplier connecting and uniting communities of dreamers. Non-profit leaders regularly gather the dreams of current volunteers and constituents holistically. This unified vision unites their community in action. The best leaders realize change is constant, the holistic dream everchanging. Thus, the “team” as well as the “dream,” are works in progress. We do magical things together understanding that “perfect is the enemy of the good.” Our results, beyond our parents’ dreams.
I been the revenue executive most of my career, in charge of the “Goes Inta’s.” You know, get money to “go into our bank accounts” in return for delivery of valuable goods and services.
Ever wonder why there are always a couple of additional suggested amounts clearly above the amount you gave last year? The worst part of any sales negotiation is when the customer says yes to your price during the first discussion. A salesperson’s worst nightmare is leaving money on the table that the client was ready to give. Prepare your A-game as you work to raise money. My cause is currently focused on Fundraising, the Treasure of the 4 T’s – Time, Treasure, Talent, Testimony.
Our biggest fundraiser is end of April, our 15th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot. A couple dozen Southwest Rotarians need to contact about 100 people through our community and ask for sponsors funds for nonprofits supporting Education, Women & Children and Better Communities.
First organize the potential sponsors based upon connections to each member – family, occupation, recreation, dreams. Assign each member specific duties. Make them “Voluntold”, rather than asking everyone, without specific assignments. The most common reason volunteers don’t participate, “No one asked me.”
Dream how to swim to Mars with me. Remember Edison’s light bulb, “I didn't fail 1000 times. The lightbulb was an invention with 1000 steps.” Failure, means try again.
